While living in China’s ‘Western Capital’ Chengdu, the 天府绿道 Tiānfǔ lǜdào, ‘Tianfu Greenway,’ is impossible to ignore. A 100km orbital cycle path encircling 121 urban parks, it gives 16 million people easy access to green space.
But that’s not all: this green ring road is just one part of a much larger system of pedestrianised cycle routes and green spaces, which aim to transform Chengdu into a 公园城市 gōngyuán chéngshì, ‘Park City.‘ On completion, an estimated 17,000km of cycle paths will cover Chengdu like green veins. It is truly the world’s largest and most ambitious greenway system.

Fascinating insight into China’s urbanisation programme and the need to connect the population with green spaces and nature. Futuristic and mind blowing in its scope. Thank you Joe and Tamsin.
